Every three minutes, a child is born with a Cleft Lip and Palate. I feel that every human being deserves an equal chance at life and the joys it can bring. OperationSmile is an organization whose purpose it is to surgically correct cleft lips and palates. As of mid-September of 2011, OperationSmile has treated 1,000 patients! They function almost entirely on donations and I feel theirs is a charity worth supporting.

While I have had a long time appreciation for this charity, but it wasn’t until 2011 that I learned a classmate, Bill Magee, started it in 1982 and continues to serve as the CEO. Bill was one of about 180 graduating classmates of mine at Mount Saint Mary’s in 1966. I am proud for the way he was able to use his gifted abilities in medicine to help others. This charity merits your consideration. I love it.
